Direct-to-Film (DTF) transfers are a game-changer for custom apparel and merchandise — but pressing them correctly is key to getting vibrant, long-lasting results. Whether you’re a small business or a DIY creator, here’s how to get it right every time.
🛠️ Supplies You’ll Need:
- A heat press (not an iron)
- A lint roller
- Teflon sheet or parchment paper
- Your garment (cotton, polyester, blends, etc.)
- Your DTF transfer
Step-by-Step Pressing Instructions:
- Pre-Press the Garment
- Set your heat press to 300–325°F.
- Press the garment for 5–7 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
- Use a lint roller to clean the press area.
- Place the Transfer
Align the DTF transfer face-up on the garment where you’d like the design.
No need for adhesive or pre-treatment — DTF is ready to go! - Press the Transfer
Cover with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper.
Press at 300–325°F for 10–15 seconds with medium to firm pressure. - Cool Peel
Let the transfer cool completely (about 30 seconds or more).
Peel the carrier sheet slowly and evenly. - Optional Second Press
For extra durability and a matte finish, re-press the garment with parchment or a Teflon sheet for 5–7 seconds.

Tips for Success:
Always test your press with a sample if it’s your first time.
Use even pressure — uneven presses lead to peeling corners.
Store your transfers flat, in a cool and dry place.

Why It Matters
Proper pressing ensures strong adhesion and wash durability. Done right, DTF prints look professional, feel soft, and hold up beautifully over time.
